UNO is committed to excellence as an urban, research university.  The concept of research at UNO is a broad one, encompassing creative advances in the science, social sciences, and engineering, as well as scholarly achievements in the education, business, the humanities, and fine arts.  Recognizing and rewarding scholarly excellence in our faculty is essential to maintaining a healthy atmosphere of creativity and innovation—elements crucial to a thriving research university.  Attached are descriptions, criteria, and processes for three new recognition prizes within the domain of research and scholarship, slated to begin in 2014.  Two of these new prizes (the Research Excellence Prize and the Early Career Research Prize) are nomination-based; the third (the Competitive Funding Prize) is based purely on grant success and the calculations will be made by my staff. For more information, please review the attached guidelines.

For the nomination-based prizes, please consider nominating a worthy colleague and/or working with your department chair to secure a nomination for yourself. Nominations should be sent to vpresearch@uno.edu no later than May 16, 2014 May 30, 2014 in order to be eligible, but may be submitted any time between now and then. Awardees will be announced in Fall 2014.

On behalf of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, the Research Council, and myself, we appreciate all that our wonderful researchers do to advance the mission of UNO and to make the learning experience of our students infused with creativity and knowledge creation at the vanguard of the many fields represented at UNO.  We look forward to reviewing the nominations and joining together to celebrate the success of our faculty.
