Grant Writing Workshop - PLEASE READ
By Admin (on 11/30/2010 @ 15:44:42, in Workshops, read 2187 times)

Xavier's RCMI program, Xavier’s LCRC and the Xavier’s Office of Sponsored Programs will be co-hosting a one-day seminar and an extensive workshop for faculty members on how to write winning grants.

Phase 1 Seminar – Writing Winning Grants:

The seminar is planned for March 25, 2011 and will emphasize such topics as idea development, identification of the most appropriate granting agency, how to write for reviewers, and tips and strategies that are of proven value in presenting an applicant's case to reviewers.  Attached is a detailed description of the seminar and a biosketch of the presenter. There is no charge for the seminar, however faculty from LSU, UNO, Dillard and Tulane must pay for their workbooks.  The workbooks cost $75 each, plus $5 in shipping.*

Phase 2 Workshop – Proposal Writing Workshop:

The workshop builds upon the Write Winning Grants seminar and allows up to thirty persons to interact individually with workshop presenters over a period of between four and six weeks.  The program has three objectives for each participant:

  • To write and submit the best application of which s/he is capable
  • To better understand the dynamics and psychology of the review process
  • To develop an appreciation that constructive criticism from colleagues can make the difference between an application's success and failure.

The interested faculty must apply to the workshop by submitting a proposal.  If selected, the faculty member will work with Peg AtKisson one on one to prepare a grant application.  Off-site interactions with consultants are conducted by telephone, fax, and email.  More information will become available as the seminar and workshop approach.  Both new and revised applications can be prepared.  Assistance in responding to prior review is provided to those who are writing revisions.  The proposal writing workshop is $3,475 per person and must be paid by faculty at LSU, UNO, Dillard, SUNO, and Tulane.**

Please indicate your interest in attending the following:

  1. The March 25th seminar only ($80 workbook/ shipping)
  2. The March 25th seminar and subsequent workshop ($80 workbook/shipping and $3,475 workshop)

More information will be distributed as the seminar and workshop dates approach.  At this time, Xavier is attempting to gauge interest in the seminar and workshop.

*UNO’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) will pay the materials fee of $80 only for the Phase 1 Seminar. Anyone who meets the definition of a Principal Investigator (policy attached) is eligible to have their materials fee for the Phase One Seminar paid for by ORSP.  **ORSP will NOT pay the $3,475 for the Phase Two Workshop.

If you are interested in attending please contact Carol Lunn (clunn1@uno.edu) in UNO’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programs by CLOSE OF BUSINESS WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1. More information will be sent later, but we are trying to gauge interest in the seminar.
