(For projects beginning May 2015)
http://www.neh.gov/grants/research/summer-stipends

NEH Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce articles, monographs, books, digital materials, archaeological site reports, translations, editions, or other scholarly resources. Summer Stipends support full-time work on a humanities project for a period of two months. Summer Stipends support projects at any stage of development. Summer Stipends are awarded to individual scholars. Successful applicants receive an outright award of $6,000 for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing.

Notes: All U.S. citizens, whether they reside inside or outside the United States, are eligible to apply. Individuals who have held a major fellowship or research grant or its equivalent within the three academic years prior to the deadline are ineligible. Each college and university in the United States and its jurisdictions may nominate two (2) faculty members.

Because this is a “Limited Submission” (UNO may only nominate two (2) faculty members), it is important that all eligible and interested faculty members submit a pre-proposal (described below) well in advance of NEH deadline.  That way, UNO’s two nominees can be identified and given plenty of time to submit a full proposal to NEH (due in late September of 2014).

The pre-proposal submitted to ORSP should include the following:

·         Limited Submission Proposal Checklist

·         Narrative (maximum 3-pages) to include:

-  Description of the intellectual significance of the proposed project, including its value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Provide an overview of the project, explaining the basic ideas, problems, or questions examined by the study. Explain how the project will complement, challenge, or expand relevant studies in the field.

-  Description of the work plan. Clarify the part or stage of the project that will be supported by the Summer Stipend.

-  Description of your capability to carry out this work, how and to whom you intend to disseminate your results.

·         Full CV

Pre-proposals must be submitted electronically to vpresearch@uno.edu by June 30, 2014.

NOTE:

  • Faculty should carefully review the full program announcement before submitting a pre-proposal to ORSP.
  • ORSP can discuss the program, but cannot review and comment upon pre-proposal documents prior to Limited Submission deadlines.

Questions about the submission process should be sent to kbmarti1@uno.edu or you can contact the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs at x6837.
