There is a focused hiring event by the Sewerage & Water Board this Friday, July 13, at Xavier University’s Convocation Center Annex Building, from 9am to 4pm.

This event will fill several targeted vacancies through an expedited process. The agency’s goal is to fill 50 vacant positions.

The agency is encouraging individuals seeking employment with the S&WB to visit the website below to review available positions and apply online for jobs for which they are qualified ahead of the event. Many people will receive calls in the next few days to come in for an interview on Friday.

The Grants Resource Center (GRC), a unit of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), has enhanced the research and sponsored programs capabilities of higher education institutions since 1967. A subscription to GRC provides UNO with access to a comprehensive suite of tools, services, and expertise to improve your office’s efficiency and increase your institution’s success in securing competitive grants from federal and private sponsors.

Funding Opportunity Information

GRC’s proprietary search engine, GrantSearch, includes 2,000 private and federal funding opportunities screened for recurrence and for higher education eligibility. Search results provide a high proportion of viable opportunities because the database excludes solicitations that are limited to a specific region, that make fewer than three awards annually, and for which higher education institutions are not eligible to apply or partner.

Resource Library

The members-only GRC website serves as a clearinghouse for higher education grant-seeking tools and resources. It provides access to the GrantSearch database, GRC publications and funding guides, and the GRC_News Twitter feed. The website also houses sample research administration policies, a library of funded proposals, and a weekly list of federal meetings.

For years researchers have used the Matchmaker feature in NIH RePORTER to identify NIH-funded projects similar to their supplied abstracts, research bios, or other scientific text. Matchmaker was recently enhanced to make it just as easy to identify NIH program officials whose portfolios include projects in your research area.

After entering your scientific text (up to 15,000 characters), Matchmaker will analyze the key terms and concepts to identify up to 500 similar projects. Those projects will continue to show on the Projects tab with handy charts to visualize the results and quickly filter identified projects by Institute/Center, Activity Code, and Study Section. A new Program Official tab identifies the program officials associated with the matched projects and includes its own filters for Institute/Center and Activity Code. From the list of program officials you are one click away from their contact information and matched projects in their portfolios. Never before has it been so easy to answer the question “Who at NIH can I talk to about my research?”

April 16 to April 20, 2018 The SBIR Road Tour is a national outreach effort to convey the non-dilutive technology funding opportunity provided through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. Federal and State Program Managers representing $2.5 billion in early stage funding have been invited to present at a series of events to next generation technology entrepreneurs and innovation supporters from across the United States. This event is a coveted opportunity for those involved in the development of groundbreaking, high-risk technologies, including women-owned and minority-owned firms.

If you’re an innovator, entrepreneur, researcher, or small technology firm, don’t miss this opportunity.

Every SBIR Road Tour stop provides an in-depth understanding of agency technology funding priorities, a review of regional innovation support resources, and one-on-one meetings with high level decision makers.

Just a reminder…..if any of your tenants, clients, faculty, program managers, companies, etc. plan to attend the 2018 SBIR Road Tour event coming up April 20th in B .Rouge, and they plan to schedule time for one-on-one meetings, they should complete a Quad Chart (sample attached) and bring copies with them to hand to the various SBIR-STTR federal program agency representatives as they talk about their technologies to offer as a proposal. It would also be a really good idea if attendees did an agency/topic search on their ideas/technology prior to the event. This can be done at www.sbir.gov You can search by agency, year, or enter some key word searches at that site. Any preparation like this will make your one-on-one meeting go a lot smoother and demonstrate you have taken time to do some “homework.” Also keep in mind I have a short PowerPoint that is a prep for the April 20th event if you want it. Again, this is all designed to insure that participants get maximum benefit while attending the event.
